Eight previous DUI convicted men were arrested in Upland earlier this week after allegedly causing a felony hit and rank rush and fled to a nearby equestrian centre.
Police said the incident unfolded at the intersection of Campus Avenue and 21st Avenue around 4:50pm on Monday, when a woman stopped at a stop sign and was taken to the rear by a minivan. This effect caused the woman to suffer neck and back injuries.
The minivan driver reportedly got out of the car, ignored the injured woman and drove off on foot to a nearby equestrian facility.
Police responded quickly and established boundaries around the facility while K9 officers and drones searched from the ground and air. During the search, motorcycle officers were provided with horses and accepted by staff at the equestrian center.

“As said, “when in Rome,” Upland PD wrote in X-Post. “The officer happened to be riding a horse over the weekend and was fully experienced, so the horse was called to serve.”
About 30 minutes later, officers discovered the suspect was hiding in the bushes. After being given multiple K9 warnings, the man surrendered without further incident.
Police said the suspect was affected at the time of the crash and his license had been suspended. He was booked after being injured and felony hit on felony DUI suspect.
Authorities added that the man has a long criminal history, including eight previous DUI convictions.
