The Senate confirmed on Saturday that President Donald Trump’s election, Janine Piro, as Washington, DC’s top prosecutor, as lawmakers were unable to sign contracts through dozens of presidential candidates.
The former New York judge and prosecutor and former Fox News host was one of more than 150 unresolved candidates on the Senate calendar to find a way forward through some of the numerous picks to vote over the weekend, as Senate Republicans find a way to run through Ram through the lockdown of Senate Democratic candidates. But just before her confirmation vote, the road to deal went off track, and lawmakers chose to chase seven of Trump’s candidates before returning home until September.

Confirmed by 50-45 votes, Piro will serve as a US lawyer for the District of Columbia, a post he has held tentatively since May.
Pillo previously served as a district attorney in Westchester County, New York for over a decade. Prior to that, he was on the bench as a Westchester County judge in the early 1990s.
“Janine is very qualified for this position and is considered one of the best district lawyers in New York State’s history,” Trump said when he nominated Piro. “She’s in class herself.”

But she wasn’t Trump’s first choice. His first choice, Ed Martin, did not get enough support among Republicans earlier this year. Sen. Tom Tillis (RN.C.) effectively fought Martin’s nomination against concerns about his views on the January 6, 2021 riots at Capitol Hill.
And the path to confirming Pillo wasn’t without its own hiccups and drama.

Senate Democrats accuse Trump of advancing and defending him after the Capitol riots as a host of Fox News after the Capitol riots on January 6th, and accusing him of defending him, and warned him that he would place a presidential bid in his role as a top prosecutor in Washington, D.C.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last month, Democrats took a strike in protest against both her and US District Judge Emil Bove. She later advanced from the committee on party voting.
“She is an election denier and even her own Fox News producers and executives are recklessly pitching President Trump’s big lies despite warning her to get involved,” and the Senate Judiciary Committee’s top Democrat said of Pillo.
