Ex-soldier suspected of killing four people in Montana remains massive – NBC Los Angeles

The former US military suspected of killing four people at a Montana bar was still large early Sunday and could be armed after fleeing in stolen vehicles containing clothing and camping equipment, officials said.

Authorities believe 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown killed four people Friday morning at an owl bar in Anaconda, Montana.

Michael Paul Brown was suspected and was last seen in the Stamptown area.

Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen said at a press conference on Sunday that Brown committed a shooting with a rifle that law enforcement believes is his personal weapon.

The victims ranged from 59 to 74 years old, with a female bartender and three male patrons.

Knudsen warned the town’s residents of more than 9,000 people, who lived next to the bar where he was a regular, that Brown could return to the area.

“This is an unstable individual who killed four people with cold blood for no reason.

According to a local Facebook page, many public events were cancelled over the weekend as the search entered its third day.

Investigators are considering all possible options for Brown’s place, the Attorney General said. That includes searching for the forests that Brown hunted and camped when he was a child. However, Knudsen pointed out that during peak tourism season in western Montana, some law enforcement officials must return to their local jurisdiction for normal responsibility.

According to Army spokesman Lt. Col. Ruth Castro, Brown served in the military as an armor crew from 2001 to 2005, and was deployed in Iraq from the beginning of 2004 until March 2005. Brown was with the Montana State Guard from 2006 to March 2009, Castro said, before resigning from military service to Sergeant.

Brown’s nie Claire Boyle told the Associated Press that her uncle has been suffering from mental illness for many years and that she and other families have repeatedly asked for help.

“This isn’t just a drunk/High Man going wild,” she said in a Facebook message. “It’s a sick person who doesn’t know who he is, and often he doesn’t know where he is.”

Knudsen said on Sunday that Brown was “known” to local law enforcement agencies before the shooting. Given how close he was to the bar, it was widely believed he knew at least some of the victims.

Law enforcement has released photos of Brown from surveillance footage taken shortly after the fatal shooting. He appeared barefoot and minimally dressed.

But law enforcement now believes Brown abandoned the car he escaped and stole another vehicle with camping gear, shoes and clothing.

The last time law enforcement saw Brown was Friday afternoon, but there was “confusion” as multiple white vehicles were involved, Knudsen said.

You will receive a $7,500 reward for information that leads to the capture of Brown.

“This is still Montana. Montanans know how to take care of themselves. But if you see them, call 911,” Knudsen said.
