The Gifford fire continued to burn Monday in California’s central coastal area, prompting an increase in evacuation orders and road closures as the flames grew to more than 65,000 acres.
The fire that ignited Friday afternoon northeast of Santa Maria in the Rospadres National Forest is locked in just 3%. At least three people were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials issued the following evacuation orders:
South of Highway 166, east of School House Road, west of Aliso Canyon Road, south of Highway 166, east of Cottonwood Canyon Road, west of Upper Tepsket Canyon, south of Highway 166, south of Highway 166, east of Willow Spring Strailhead, west of Cottonwood Canyon Road

Evacuation warnings have been issued for the following areas:
South of Highway 166, east of Aliso Canyon Road, West Lower Tepsket Canyon on Perkins Road, north of the Siscock River.
Officials stressed that residents who need additional time to evacuate, including people with disabilities and people with animals, should leave immediately.
Highway 166 remains closed between Highway 101 and Highway 33’s southern junction. Travel in this area is restricted to evacuation purposes only.
Temporary Evacuation Points and Community Resource Center
Two temporary shelters and a community information centre have been established for residents affected by Gifford Fire.
