If Encino’s recent robbery showed anything, the criminals didn’t stop anything. If they can break into a $2 million home, they pack Wi-Fi to disarm their security systems without fear of being filmed with a security camera in dark clothing.
It’s not just Encino. NBC Los Angeles covers countless robberies in nearby Sherman Oaks, Studio City and Woodland Hills.
The anecdotal evidence and examples spoken by West Valley residents are currently supported by data: Law enforcement sources said NBC4 is investigating Monday the entire San Fernando Valley saw an increase in robbery in the past 30 days.
North Hollywood, Studio City and Lake Toluca have been hit hardest, but Encino has seen a slight decline in the number of robbers and more police resources are deployed in the area.
With more valley neighborhoods on the edge, a community meeting will be held in Sherman Oaks on August 20th, demanding more police resources. LAPD chief Jim McDonnell will meet with members of the community, the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association said.
Robbers have become a troubling issue for law enforcement despite the fact that more homes are equipped with alarm systems, security cameras and motion lighting devices.
Law enforcement sources also said NBC4 is investigating the success of neighborhood associations in dodging off criminals. Some have hired private security companies to roam patrol units, but others have strategically placed license plate leaders, so they know who is in the area when a crime occurs.
Another plea from the authorities: People leaving town or going on vacation must share it on social media and let others know that their homes will be empty.
