A brush fire that appeared on Thursday, adjacent to the highway at Pomona (60) in the Jurupa Valley, prompted an evacuation order and warning.
The non-injured fire was reported at 5pm Thursday in the Camino Real Hill Drive area on the north side of the highway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews from the county, riverside fire stations and other agencies were sent to the location and encountered flames moving northeast at moderate speeds in light wind and 100-degree heat.
Firefighters established the spawn of the hose near the facility in the fire path, and two Cal fire air tankers and a water-drawing helicopter began running.
An evacuation order was issued at 6:15pm in the area north of Granite Hill Drive, west of Boulder Drive and south of Water Tower, at 6:15pm.
Evacuation warnings were issued simultaneously in areas north of Granite Hill Drive, east of Boulder Drive, west of Soto Drive and south of Water Tower.
The Care and Reception Centre was established at Patriot High School.
The highway was unaffected except for drivers who were slower to see the flames.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
