An order to boil or use water for some Malibu residents before drinking or using it, following work on the bridge at Solstis Creek, according to the California Department of Transport and the Los Angeles County Waterworks.
The agency said the water mains were temporarily destroyed while the bridge was being constructed. Water supply recovery was delayed after concrete unexpectedly blocked the water line. According to a statement from LA County Waterworks, 29th District, the crew completed repairs at noon Wednesday and worked to recompress and test water lines for pathogens and contaminants.
The boiling point, which began Wednesday, was influenced by the west of Coral Road and Solstis Canyon Road. Residents should boil water for at least one minute before drinking or using, as recommended by the state Water Resources Management Board to avoid “potential stomach or intestinal diseases due to potential contaminants in the water system.”
LA County Waterworks said bottled water is being distributed at two locations Thursday and Friday, between 9am and 6pm. The location includes Malibu Public Library at Civic Center Way and Malibu High School at Morning View Drive in front of the administrative building.
Meanwhile, Granada Hills and Porter Ranch residents experienced a water outage on Tuesday, which occurred while crews were repairing leaks at pump stations connecting to a 10 million gallon water tank. The boiling orders issued on Tuesday for these regions lasted all day on Wednesday.
It was not immediately known when the order of boiling would be lifted in the Malibu region. Those affected can check for updates here.
