Residents of Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, urged people not to turn on tap water – NBC Los Angeles

As people on Porter Ranch and Granada Hills continue to live without water in summer weather, Los Angeles officials begged residents not to use water services on Friday.

The city said water services were restored overnight for many customers, but said attempts to use tap water or turn on sprinklers will slow down the full repair effort. Neighbors were also asked to refrain from washing, washing dishes, and washing toilets.

“Homeowners will be asked to turn off their pool automatic filling systems that automatically use water from smart irrigation controllers, water heaters and systems that serve the community,” LADWP said in a statement.

Using water by people with restored water services is hindering crew efforts to fill the tank as tank levels drop, officials explained.

The city continued to encourage families and businesses to use bottled water.

A full recovery of water services may not happen anytime soon, as the city said repair work will continue “throughout the weekend.”

“Our crew members work tirelessly 24 hours a day, until full service is restored,” LADWP added.

The suspension of service for more than 9,200 LADWP customers began Tuesday when one of the valves from the local water pipeline trunk line broke, blocking water supply to homes and businesses.

Boiled water notification

The LADWP and the state Water Resources Management Board’s Drinking Water Department have advised some residents of the area to use boiled tap or bottled water for drinking and cooking.

The affected area is located either north of Rinaldi Street, LADWP’s customer, or 118 highways, either north, and west of Balboa Boulevard.

Failure to follow the recommendations could lead to stomach and intestinal diseases, the agency said at its release.

“The abundant care requires consumers to follow these important health and safety instructions, and LADWP staff will conduct tests to confirm water quality,” LADWP said. “All tap water is boiled, boiled for one minute and allowed to cool before use. This applies to water, which is also used to prepare foods, such as brushing teeth, making ice cubes, and washing.”

Water may also be treated with household fragrance-free liquid bleach. LADWP provided the following instructions/

For clear water, use 8 drops (1/8 tsp) of bleach in 1 gallon of water. For cloudy water, filter through a clean cloth and use 16 drops (1/4 teaspoon) of bleach in 1 gallon of water. Mix well. Stand for 30 minutes before use. Water may taste or smell like chlorine. This means disinfection has occurred.

Water bottle distribution site

Water bottle distribution sites can be found at:

Holleigh Bernson Memorial Park, 20500 Sesnon Blvd, Northridge, CA 91326 O’Melveny Park, 17300 Sesnon Blvd., Granada Hills, CA 91344 Tampa Ave. and Sesnon Blvd., Northridge and Porter Ranch border

Drinking water is available for pickup from 7am to 9pm, according to LADWP.
