A protest was held at MacArthur Park against immigrant raids – NBC Los Angeles

Activists held a rally at MacArthur Park on Saturday, marching at MacArthur Park, protesting the Trump administration’s ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration.

“The officers tried to contact the protestors as crowds surround the officers and began slamming the cars. Items were thrown and illegal rally was declared due to the aggressive nature of several protesters,” the LAPD Central Division posted on X on Friday night.

“The protests entered the middle of the night. People refused to break up. The conclusion was that more than dozens of people were arrested and the streets were reopened with all the debris and lanes of traffic,” police said in an update on Saturday morning. “The central division will continue to support all people’s first amendments, but in the event of violence or criminal activity, the law will come into effect.”

Organizers called Saturday’s demonstration, “Takeback MacArthur Park,” referring to recent illegal immigration enforcement activities in the area. The rally began at 11am and on Alvarado Street. About 50-100 marchers walked to the nearby Home Depot and returned to the park. There, several people spoke about the impact of the ongoing attack, organizer Malcolm Ray told City News Service.

The rally and marching were peaceful and there was no conflict with the police, added Ray, organizer of West Side Vision.

Federal authorities may have correctly denied applying for a green card, immigration lawyers say. The video aired during NBC4 News on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 5pm.

Activists also called for a boycott of the Home Depost Store.

“We have not notified that ice activity will occur and we are not involved in them,” Home Depot spokesman Beth Marlowe told City News Service in a statement Saturday. “In many cases, we don’t know that arrests were made until the arrest is over. We must follow all federal and local rules and regulations in every market where we operate.”

US immigration officers arrested at least seven people Friday in at least two attacks at the Home Depot parking lot in Vanneis.

County supervisor Lindsey Horvas on social media on Friday condemned the operation, accusing the judge of violating a temporary restraining order, preventing the government from violating the Fourth Amendment and stopping individuals. The Trump administration has called on the U.S. Supreme Court to lift the order.

“This morning, at Van Nuisse, some of our neighbors were forced to take us to the ice. The ice agent showed no warrants and the car windows were not destroyed,” Horvath was posted on X.
