The main break in the water caused a massive flood on Granada Hill Street on Saturday, causing damage to at least one family’s home after shooting hundreds of gallons of water through the residence.
The main break will function as LADWP repair broken valves at damaged pump stations on Tuesday, causing a water outage for 9,200 households in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch. Authorities estimate that it has affected around 31,000 people.
Surveillance footage shot the bursting water exploded into the family’s gardens on the Granada hills, and was extremely powerful and knocked out the camera.
“I’ve never seen anything like that. I’ve seen it in the films, but it wasn’t something I know I’m experiencing watching it in my backyard at my home.
Lucy returns home to find a great mess in her garden caused by the water barreled from the main break of water at the intersection of Sethnon and Balboa BLVD.
“Fortunately, we’re not here, especially since our grandchildren always swim outside, so if they were here they were small and you know, they certainly weren’t trying to survive this,” Nazarian said.
According to LADWP, the location had a temporary connection with pressure spikes and separated connections. This connection was intended to dehydrate tonight, and this break was unexpected. LADWP says this doesn’t put them backwards much. However, the pressure is lost to extremes as the crew assessed the damage by turning off the main.
“We are very concerned that if people continue to use the water coming out of the faucet today, DWP will regain the line and recover and delay the ability to use the water to return to normal,” Mayor Karen Bass said on Saturday.
According to LADWP, the crew works 24 hours a day to flush water again, but it’s a very boring and complicated process.
Until then, the Nazarian family is worried about another water main break that could cause more damage.
