Mookie Betts hit a tiebreaker solo homer leading eight innings after Los Angeles blew a four-run lead and the Dodgers increased their NL West lead to two games on Sunday by defeating San Diego Padres 5-4.

The Dodgers opened a three-game series chasing the Padres in the game, but they wiped out their rivals and outscored San Diego 14-6. The team will meet again in San Diego on Friday.

After flying twice on foot, Betts left reliever Robert Suarez (4-5) deep for Homer for his second in his last nine games, giving the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. Suarez retired as the next three batters:

Freddie Freeman attacked a 2-strike three-run homer from Yu Darvish in the first innings.

Andy Page added his first shot to lead starter Tyler Glasnow 4-0.

A player’s weekend swinging a pencil-like bat, and Page’s shot was two outs, making him the sixth Homer to be given up on Dervish (all on the road) this season.

After Alex Freeland’s second lead walk, the Dodgers went down in order for the third, fourth and fifth.

San Diego Center fielder Jackson Merrill left the game for the fourth time.

Important moments

The Padres had a potential bond in their sixth scoring position. Gavin Seat faced reliever Anthony Vanda and scored with a double from Ryan O’Hern. Ben Casparius replaced Banda and attacked Ramon Laureano. O’Haan reached third place in Jake Cronenworth’s fielder selection before Freddie Fermin scored his third strike to finish the innings. San Diego also scored fifth and ran well.

Key Statistics

Padres Sluggers Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado had five strikeouts and a 10-1 total. Alex 1 (3-2) hit Machado for the final out.

next

The Padres LHP Nestor Cortes (1-1, 5.71 ERA) begins Monday against San Francisco. Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (10-8, 2.84) will begin Monday in Colorado in the opening game of a seven-game trip.
