Steve Witkov, the envoy of the US Peace Mission, claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin took a “robust” step towards peace during his meeting with President Donald Trump last week.
Witkoff made a statement when he appeared on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Breem. The official was in the Alaska conference room and had met Putin several times before.
“We agreed to a more robust security guarantee,” Witkoff said. “The Russians agreed to enshrine a legislative language that proved they would not seek to acquire any more land from Ukraine after a peace agreement that proved they would not violate the European border.”
Witkov also said Trump spoke with Ukrainian Voldymi Zelensky and European leaders shortly after the meeting. He said the meeting was “absolutely recognized as a victory.”

Bream pushed Witkov to explain why Putin didn’t push to the ceasefire agreement either during the meeting. Trump previously said that a ceasefire is his number one priority, and argued that if Putin doesn’t agree with him he will face consequences.

“The president has always been talking about ceasefires. We have had many different victories at this meeting and we have started to realize that we are talking about peace deals. The ultimate deal here is a peace deal, and we were talking about security guarantees that are far more robust than anyone else,” he said.

In a statement after the call with Trump, major European leaders did not address whether they preferred peace deals over ceasefires.
Trump: We will go straight to the Russian Ukraine Peace Contract. “It’s not just a ceasefire.”
The leader said he “welcomes President Trump’s efforts to stop the killings in Ukraine, end the Russian war of aggression and achieve just and lasting peace.”
Putin described his speech with Trump in Alaska as “very frank.”

“Of course we respect the position of the US administration, which respects the need for a quick end to military action,” Putin said at a follow-up meeting in the Kremlin, adding that he “want to move towards solving all problems through peaceful means.”
