The mother of the missing boy has not cooperated with authorities after claiming he was being lured at Yukaipa. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the mother’s story was inconsistent and foul plays could not be ruled out after Emmanuel’s disappearance at seven months.
Rebecca Halo said she was changing her son’s diapers while standing outside her car near the Big 5 store on Thursday evening. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, Halo told investigators he was attacked by an unknown man and knocked his unconscious.
Authorities say when Halo woke up, her baby was gone. Authorities responded at 7:47pm from both Riverside and San Bernardino counties, where sheriff deputies and police dogs responded to search the scene, but they were unable to find the boy.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Specialist Investigation Division interviewed several witnesses, including Halo and the boy’s father, Jake Halo. In her interview, investigators asked Rebecca Halo about the inconsistencies in her story, and she refused to continue talking to authorities, the sheriff said.
Community members held candlelight on Sunday, with news station ABC 7 reporting that authorities were found at Cabazon’s home over the weekend when the family lives.
The Uvalde Foundation for Kids, the National Child Advocacy Group, has withdrawn its offer to help the boy explore and $5,000 reward for information about his loss. The group said they are worried about Rebecca Halo’s sudden decision to stop talking to advocacy groups and sheriff’s investigators.
“There’s nothing right in this big picture,” group founder Daniel Chapin said in a statement. “We hope that law enforcement continues to pursue lawsuits so that this precious child can be found and placed in a safe environment.”
Authorities say Emmanuel Haro was last seen wearing a black Nike Onesie.
