San Bernardino’s father is still trying to understand what he and his family went through over the weekend when an armed hidden federal officer fired on his vehicle.
Video of the tense confrontation on Saturday captured a masked agent who broke the driver’s side window as masked agents ordered three residents to be out. After the windows are crushed, the driver hits the gas and tries to slow down. This is followed by three big pops.
The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that these sounds were gunshots fired by police. The driver “drived directly to the officers and hit two people in the car.”
But that’s not the way residents see it.
The driver only identified him as Francisco, but said he was running errands with his son and son-in-law when he was surrounded by agents in three unmarked vehicles. He added that he has been in the US for 23 years without any issues and has no criminal history.
“This situation has caused a lot of fear in the family,” said Javier Hernandez, executive director of the Inland Coalition of Immigration Justice.
“This family felt they needed support and protection,” Hernandez said. “They decided to call 911 and get assistance from the San Bernardino Police Department.”
Francis was questioned by a police officer but was not arrested.
The legal status of the men is unknown, but the conflict was target manipulation, according to DHS.
Following his experience with federal employees, the family acquired lawyers. It’s unclear what they’ll do next.
San Bernardino police said they assisted federal agents in detaining a man allegedly assaulting an agent. Amber Frias is reporting an NBC4 News report on Saturday, August 16th, 2025 at 6pm.
