Investigators from the Inland Empire continue their efforts to find a boy who was reportedly lured later last week.
Cabazon’s Rebecca Halo reported that her 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Halo, was lured Thursday after saying she was attacked in the parking lot of a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa while changing her son’s diapers in the car.
“I took him out of my car seat and placed him on a chair. I had his diapers here and someone said ‘Horror’. I couldn’t look back and I remember nothing.
Since then, the Kabazon and Yukaipa communities have gathered for the missing boy.
“This is a child’s life and we need to find this baby,” said Mary Espinoza, a woman from the Inland Empire.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Rebecca “facing contradictions in her initial statement and refused to continue the interview.”
Detectives were seen talking to the father of a toddler, Jake Halo, outside the family home on Sunday night. According to law enforcement, Jake was convicted in 2021 of child cruelty and in 2024 of being a felon with a handgun.
The seven-month-old boy was reported missing in the Yukaipa area. The video aired on NBC4 News at 6am on August 15th, 2025.
Details for both cases were not available immediately, but Jake’s former colleague said he was surprised she had learned about her beliefs.
“He was great, he was cool. He’s just cool and nice guy,” said Christina Topper, who worked with Jake at Walmart in 2016.
Community members held a candlelight vigil on Sunday for Emmanuel outside the Big 5 store. They say they are committed to wishing his happiness with the child’s best interest in mind.
“When a child goes missing and he is not found anywhere, the community needs to stand up,” said a woman who doesn’t want to be identified. “We need to search and find baby Emmanuel.”
The infant weighs approximately 21 pounds and is 24 inches tall. He has brown hair and eyes, and finally saw him wearing a Nike Onesie.
