The announcement marks the sixth consecutive year that the Community Resource Center will provide free vaccines to communities in the nation’s most populous county.
The event will offer influenza vaccines to people ages 3 and older, including formulations for people 65 and older. The COVID-19 vaccine will now be available to individuals aged 12 and older. Additionally, it allows individuals over the age of 18 to measure blood sugar levels and blood pressure.
Kristen Cerf, president and CEO of Blue Shield Promise Health Plan, said, “Over the past five years, we have been “We have provided approximately 10,400 vaccines at our community resource centers.” . “These vaccination events are a great example of how our center is achieving its goals for the benefit of all Angelenos.”
The need for these resources is enormous. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that more than 360,000 Americans will be hospitalized for influenza-related illness during the 2022-2023 flu season, and vaccinated people are 40 to 70 percent less likely to be hospitalized. estimated.
“Getting vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19 this season is critical to protecting yourself and those around you from serious illness,” said LA Care CEO. CEO John Bax says. “As we approach winter when respiratory viruses become more prevalent, it is more important than ever to act proactively. And with cases on the rise, now is the time to get everyone vaccinated and help reduce infections.” It’s time to strengthen the health of our communities by contributing to “burdening our health care systems and protecting the most vulnerable among us.” ”
Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations protect everyone, but they are especially important for children and older adults. According to the CDC, nearly 90% of all influenza-related childhood deaths during the 2023-2024 influenza season were unvaccinated children. The CDC also warned that people 65 and older are at higher risk of developing serious complications from the flu. This age group accounts for 70 to 85 percent of influenza-related deaths and 50 to 70 percent of influenza-related hospitalizations.
