One person was killed and two others were injured when a tanker truck loaded with fuel collided with several cars on Highway 110 in the Florence area.
All northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles are closed from Century Boulevard to Manchester Boulevard as hazardous workers work to overturn a big rig and extract fuel from it. Meanwhile, emergency teams are working to rescue a driver who was trapped in the vehicle involved in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The names of those who died in the accident have not been released. The other two people with minor injuries were a 45-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The incident, the cause of which is still under investigation, was reported just before 11pm on Saturday after a tanker truck collided with several cars on the highway.
Video from the scene showed a tanker truck overturned and at least two cars stalled on the highway with damage. Another vehicle was seen wedged underneath the big rig.
An estimated 500 to 1,000 gallons of fuel spilled onto the highway.
The investigation is still ongoing. It’s unclear when the northbound lanes of Highway 110 will reopen.
