Three crew members were injured when a Los Angeles County fire truck overturned while en route to a rescue operation in the San Gabriel Mountains Sunday night.
Fire officials said the incident happened around 5:39 p.m. on Highway 39 near the San Gabriel Reservoir.
Initial reports said that after Engine 32 slightly veered off the road, the driver tried to straighten out, but the truck went into a “fishtail” situation, causing the driver to lose control and the truck toppling over and landing on its side. That’s what it means.
LACo Fire said three occupants were injured and transported with minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved.
Details are limited and it was not immediately clear what caused the truck to leave the road. Additionally, authorities did not say what rescue call the fire brigade was directed to or whether it had been resolved.
California Highway Patrol and CalTrans responded and closed all northbound and southbound lanes at the crash scene. The CHP reported to X at 6:37 p.m. that the highway was expected to reopen in three hours.
The CHP said there were also reports of a possible oil spill from the collision.
CHP is asking drivers to avoid the area and drive with caution.
