(NEXSTAR) – Voters are heading to the polls to cast their votes in the 2024 presidential election, which will be historic if either Harris or Trump wins.
If Vice President Kamala Harris wins, she will become the country’s first female president, while if Donald Trump wins, he will become the first former president to lose the White House and return to power nonconsecutively since 1892. If Trump is re-elected, he will become the first U.S. president to hold office after being convicted of a crime.

In the days leading up to Tuesday, early voters cast their ballots in droves, and both candidates made last-minute sales pitches to win over key voters, including women and young people.
Recent polls by Emerson College Polling and The Hill show that Harris and Trump are deadlocked in several key battleground states, with Harris leading slightly in Michigan, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. The state, Pennsylvania, shows Trump holding the lead. Ahead of the race for 270 electoral votes, the candidates are tied in Nevada and Wisconsin.
