NBC News on Wednesday predicted that incumbent Rep. Young Kim will defeat Democratic candidate Joe Carr and win a third term in California’s 40th Congressional District.
Mr. Kim, who won the same district by 14 percentage points two years ago, ran on a platform of supporting small businesses, tightening the southern border and cutting taxes.
She is one of three Korean-American women first elected to the U.S. Congress in 2020.
Kim ran against former fire chief and union president Joe Carr. Mr. Carr worked for the Orange County Fire Department for more than 30 years.
Mr. Carr sought to protect reproductive freedom, raise taxes on big corporations, and increase funding for police departments, fire departments, and first responders. He unsuccessfully ran for a state Senate seat in 2022 and for the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2018.
The district includes parts of Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties. The 40th District includes the communities of Aliso Viejo, Corona, Chino Hills, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Tustin and Villa Park.
