Jeremy Renner is already super (like the Marvel hero and survivor of a horrific snowplow accident)—now he’s great, too. The actor has been announced as the grand marshal of the 92nd Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade, organizers announced Wednesday.
The two-time Oscar nominee, known for his roles as William James in The Hurt Locker and the arrow-shooting Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will lead a parade that has lasted nearly 100 years. He follows in the footsteps of many celebrity grand marshals, including Bob Hope, Olivia Newton-John, William Shatner, and Magic Johnson.
The Dec. 1 parade begins at 6 p.m. at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles and stretches 5.2 miles along a U-shaped route. The parade ends with the appearance of a jolly old elf, Santa Claus and his reindeer.
The event supports the Malin Toys for Tots Foundation and will be broadcast on The CW on December 14th.
“I am honored to serve as grand marshal of this year’s Hollywood Christmas Parade and excited to partner with Toys for Tots to bring joy to children in need,” Renner said in a statement. ” he said. “Their mission is closely aligned with the work we do at Renervation Foundation to create meaningful experiences for at-risk youth.”
This Christmas marks less than two years since Renner was crushed by a seven-ton snowplow and suffered near-fatal injuries. The accident occurred on New Year’s Day, 2023, while he was clearing snow from his driveway at his home in Nevada. He was thrown from the car and run over as he tried to stop the car from rolling down the hill towards his nephew. He spent several weeks in hospital, recovering from 38 broken bones, severe chest trauma, and a collapsed lung.
“It’s in my visions. It’s in my dreams, it’s in my waking thoughts,” he told The Times in May. Crediting his doctors and family for his positive attitude and recovery, he quickly returned to acting a year after the accident, starring in the third season of “The Mayor of Kingstown” this year. In 2023, he founded the RennerVation Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
Organizers say the rest of the parade’s talent lineup will be announced soon.
