A 22-year-old carjacking suspect crashed into pedestrians and a building during Rodeo Night and Holiday Lights celebrations in Beverly Hills Thursday night, injuring four people, including a juvenile, authorities said (KTLA) admitted.
Beverly Hills Police Department officials said they received a report of a carjacking in the 400 block of North Bedford Drive just after 7 p.m.
“The victim stated that an unknown male suspect used force to steal her vehicle, a black BMW X3, before fleeing the area,” BHPD said in a news release.
Shortly after the carjacking, authorities received a 911 call reporting a “vehicle-pedestrian” traffic accident near Wilshire Boulevard and Camden Drive.
Footage of the incident posted on the Citizen app shows a black BMW on the sidewalk, coming to rest after colliding with a building. There was significant damage to the vehicle and part of the building’s exterior, and airbags deployed inside the vehicle.

“While gathering initial information, it was determined that the driver of the stolen vehicle lost control and crashed,” police said in a statement. “The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving multiple injured people.

Responding officers were able to quickly locate and arrest the suspect. The suspect was identified as James Portle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The victims, two adult males, one adult female, and one juvenile male, were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately known.
A 22-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of car burglary and hit-and-run injury, authorities said.
