Los Angeles Police Department is asking for help searching for a man suspected of three attempted carjackings in the Hollenbeck area.
According to Hollenbeck District Robbery Detectives, all three attempted carjackings occurred during the daytime on Nov. 9, and the victims were all female.
The first incident happened around 10:40 a.m. at a gas station in the 3200 block of North Broadway. The suspect tried to force his way into the victim’s car, but was unsuccessful after a struggle, including the victim being forced to get out of the car. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
The second attempt was reported near the 2100 block of North Broadway around 1:50 p.m. The suspect asked the victim for her keys as she entered her parked car. The victim grabbed the driver’s side door to prevent him from entering the vehicle, broke a window and fled on foot.
A third attempt was unsuccessful at a gas station in the 2900 block of East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue around 4:55 p.m. The suspect allegedly dragged the victim out of the car and assaulted him as he finished filling the vehicle with gas. Witnesses were able to separate the suspect from the victim, who fled on a silver bicycle.
Police identified the suspect as 49-year-old Maurice LaTorre. Police are asking people to stay away from Latorre as he is considered violent and dangerous.
