“Saturday Night Live” addressed the controversy surrounding the death of Peanut the squirrel.
Peanut, an Instagram-famous squirrel, was confiscated from his owner’s home and euthanized last month, along with a raccoon named Fred, after multiple anonymous complaints were made to the New York State Department of Environmental Protection.
“Weekend Update” cast member Sarah Sherman, who played Peanut’s widow, shared her thoughts on his untimely death. Dressed head to tail in a realistic squirrel costume, Sherman continued to mourn the loss of her husband, Peanut, and accentuated her squirrel-like expression with a black knitted shawl and pillbox hat.
Colin Jost thanks Sherman for being there and calls her Mrs. Nutt, before insisting that she simply calls her Hazel.
Jost asked Sherman how he was dealing with Peanut’s death, and he revealed how difficult it was being “in the media spotlight.”
“I got used to common squirrel behaviors like chasing its own tail, jumping out into the middle of the road, spotting a car, and then panicking and starting shaking, freezing and staring straight ahead. ” she explained. .
Sherman recalled the first day he met Peanut, saying he was “crunching” near a tree, minding his own business.
When Jost questioned the behavior, Sherman explained, “This is when squirrels shake their whole body like this to attract mates.” She then stood up and demonstrated the act by panting and shaking uncontrollably.
Mr. Jost pointed out that she “looked a little crazy,” and the woman freaked out and yelled, “Are you crazy?” where? “Before you start shaking violently again in excitement.
When prompted by Jost to elaborate on Peanut’s death, Sherman explained: “Well, the police raided the house, and then Peanut bit Peanut like a hero.”
“Anyway, then they kidnapped Peanut and cut off his head for a rabies test. That’s how they actually test for rabies, Colin,” Sherman added.
Jost tried to comfort Sherman during her time of mourning, saying he hoped she would find closure and move on after Peanut’s death.
“Oh, what’s life like? I’m four years old and a widow, Colin,” Sherman said. “Now that I’m older, the only person I want to hit is Jake Paul.”
Sherman said she couldn’t take it anymore and “I was going crazy,” and then she said to herself: where? “Then she felt dizzy again.
