According to his family, Kobayashi returned to Los Angeles International Airport on November 11, but apparently did not board the plane. From that day on, the family says they started receiving strange text messages from her.
“Hannah’s last message to us was alarming. She was scared and said someone might be trying to steal her money and identity,” the family said. said. “She has not been heard from since then and we are extremely concerned for her safety.”
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told City News Service that the department did receive a missing persons report regarding Kobayashi and that the case is still active. No other details were disclosed.
The family said they recently obtained surveillance footage of Kobayashi around a downtown subway station near Crypto.com Arena, but it was unclear exactly when the footage was taken. Based on the footage, the family said, “It is clear that Hannah’s condition does not appear to be good and she is not alone.”
Larry Pidgeon, Kobayashi’s aunt, told USA Today on Sunday that the messages the family received from her were “weird, calling us baby, completely different from the way she normally speaks.” He said it was uncharacteristic.
Relatives have traveled to Los Angeles to search for her, focusing their search around the airport. They have also set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the search.
