A 49-year-old man has been charged with three felonies in connection with an attempted carjacking of a woman in Los Angeles, authorities announced Monday.
Maurice LaTorre allegedly tried to carjack three women in separate incidents in Lincoln Heights and Boyle Heights on November 9, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Surveillance cameras recorded part of the attempt, showing Latorre violently attacking the unsuspecting victims, each of whom managed to escape. In two of the three attempts, children were also in the car.
The first two women were able to chase Latorre out of the car, but the third victim dragged Latorre out of the car in a struggle and pushed her to the ground before a passerby intervened, authorities said. said the person.
Two of the women suffered minor injuries during the assault and are expected to recover, according to previous reports.
When police first identified Latorre as the suspect, they issued a release warning the public to use caution because he was believed to be armed and dangerous.

A few days later, Latorre admitted himself to L.A. General Medical Center for treatment, where he was found by hospital staff and called 911. Officers then arrived and arrested Latorre.
Police said at a subsequent press conference that the 49-year-old man suffers from a mental illness, but the extent of his illness is unclear.
Latorre is being held on $375,000 bail and could be sentenced to up to 12 years and four months in state prison if convicted of the charges, prosecutors said.
