A technical failure on a Knott’s Berry Farm ride brought the fun to a screeching halt, leaving 22 thrill-seekers suspended in the air for more than two hours.
A Knott’s Berry Farm spokesperson said in a statement that the Sol Spin ride experienced a technical issue that caused the ride to stop midway around 2 p.m. Amusement park staff were able to safely evacuate all passengers by 4:30 p.m., and two female passengers were taken to hospital for further evaluation “out of an abundance of caution,” a spokesperson said. The ride consists of six swinging arms that tower six stories high and rotate 360 degrees, giving riders the sensation of rotating in three directions at once. Riders were left dangling at various angles as the ride froze.
ABC7 News helicopter footage showed amusement park staff using a crane to repair the broken down ride around 3:30 p.m.
Officials were able to lower the vehicle’s arm and evacuate passengers by 4:30 p.m., with several people limping away and at least one person being escorted out in a wheelchair, KTLA said.
This ride is located in the Fiesta Village section of the Buena Park amusement park.
