Hacienda Heights residents say the copper theft left them without phone or internet service for several months.
Los Altos High School took matters into its own hands by leaving the stadium lights on overnight to prevent copper theft. Another school, Glenn A. Wilson High School, changed its learning program because of the power outage.
The Hacienda Heights Improvement Association estimates there are approximately 11 miles of area without telephone service from Frontier. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is already investigating the theft.
A Frontier spokesperson acknowledged in a statement that the copper theft had disrupted service for some customers in the company’s region. It added that it was working closely with authorities.
“We have worked closely with local law enforcement to address this issue and appreciate their assistance in raising awareness of the impact of this issue in the community. has introduced a reward program to combat copper theft, offering up to $5,000 to anyone who provides information that directly leads to the arrest and conviction of individuals involved in theft or damage to Frontier property. ”
