Americans getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving will find that their grocery costs for this year’s holiday feast will drop.
According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the cost of a Thanksgiving banquet for 10 people is estimated to be $58.08, down 5% from the previous year. Despite this welcome figure, it is still 19% higher than five years ago, the group said.
According to the federation’s report, seven Thanksgiving products, including pumpkin pie mix, frozen peas and sweet potatoes, have dropped in price since 2023. And in welcome news for shoppers, turkey prices have also reportedly fallen by around 6% this year.
However, other items cost more. Processed foods such as stuffed cubes, cranberries, and dinner rolls are set to become even more expensive in 2024.
Americans will be more frugal this Thanksgiving, according to smart shopping expert Trey Bodges. She recommends considering making meals from scratch to keep your budget in check or using the grocery store’s private label instead of a name brand.
“Many store brands are made in the same factories as big name brands,” Bodges says.
Shoppers in Southern California want to get their groceries in as quickly as possible to avoid crowds, but there could be even better deals next week.
