The driver was killed and his passenger was injured after a car crashed into a utility pole in Redondo Beach late Wednesday night.
The City of Redondo Beach said in a news release that emergency crews responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at Palos Verdes Boulevard and South Catalina Avenue just after 11:15 p.m.
Firefighters found the vehicle engulfed in flames after the driver somehow lost control and hit a utility pole.
According to investigators, there were two people on board at the time of the accident: a man who was driving and a woman in the passenger seat.

The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.
Further details about the death were not released, but freelance media company OnScene.TV, which was at the scene, reported that the driver was thrown from the vehicle and decapitated.
The woman in the passenger seat suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
It was not announced whether drugs or alcohol were a factor or whether the vehicle was speeding.
