Social media posts, adoption events, and personal appearances failed to bring Rex the husky what he really wanted: a forever home.
His supporters in Los Angeles’ vast pet adoption community worry that his time is running out.
“He’s been here a long time,” said Javier Gutierrez, animal care manager at Baldwin Park Animal Shelter. “No one is interested so far.”
But Gutierrez wants to change things for Rex and enlists the help of “adoption partners,” people with social media platforms that specialize in connecting pets with families looking for new companions. I’m looking for it.
@SabrinaLovesDoggos is one of them. She posted a video of a lively 3-year-old male running happily, his bright blue eyes flashing. She told NBC4 she fears Rex could be euthanized in the near future unless a family is found.
Rex’s misfortune began in early October when a man took him to a shelter and abandoned him. After his friend left for care, he had decided he didn’t want Rex.
It’s a double rejection for dogs who wonder why their living situations keep changing, and not always for the better.
Gutierrez is confused by the lack of interest in Rex, who is energetic, healthy and gets along well with other dogs and people. “We make every effort to get these dogs out and promote them at different events,” he said.
Rex will be given another chance to find his forever home on Saturday, November 23rd. The adoption event will be held at 11 a.m. at the Laidlaw Harley-Davidson dealership in Baldwin Park. Rex is also available for adoption through the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center at 626-962-3577.
