State health officials on Friday warned consumers not to eat Polkadot-branded Mushroom Magic Blend chocolate bars because they contain added psychoactive substances.
According to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Polkadot-branded Mushroom Magic Blend chocolate bars were sold both online and in brick-and-mortar stores across California.
The bar was labeled as containing the food additive Amanita muscaria, a type of mushroom. Laboratory testing confirmed that the bars contained additional synthetic psychoactive substances.
The bars known to be affected are:
Belgian Milk Chocolate Caramel Peanut Twist Belgian Milk Chocolate Intense Dark Belgian Milk Chocolate Maui Coconut Twist

State health officials warn that eating chocolate bars can lead to illness, hospitalization and even death. Young children are thought to be particularly at risk as this bar can be mistaken for a regular chocolate bar.
At this time, there are no reported illnesses associated with PolkaDot brand Mushroom Magic Blend chocolate bars. The state reports $3 million worth of PolkaDot brand chocolate bars were destroyed.
