Authorities announced Friday the arrest of David Lane Brough Jr., accused of sexually abusing eight children at Makevett Elementary School in Santa Paula.
Braff, 42, worked as a school counselor at an elementary school in Ventura County from 2015 to 2019. The suspect is accused of sexually abusing children between the ages of 6 and 10 in a school office, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
“The Santa Paula Unified School District is aware of the recent arrest of a former employee on suspicion of sexual abuse that occurred while employed by the district in 2018. At the time of the allegations, the district did not pursue whistleblowing. We are continuing our investigation and working closely with law enforcement. The District remains committed to transparency and accountability and continues to cooperate with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office in the current legal proceedings to create a safe and supportive environment for all members of the school community. We are committed to the same,” the Santa Paula Unified School District said in a statement.
Braff is charged with 17 felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14. He is also charged with a number of special charges and aggravating factors in the criminal complaint.
At the time of his arrest, the child abuse suspect was working as an assistant principal and school counselor at Ingenium Charter Middle School in Winnetka.
His current employer wrote in a statement to NBCLA:

Upon learning of the allegations from McKevett Elementary School in Ventura County, Ingenium took immediate action to ensure the safety of our students. Mr. Brough is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, November 25th, and his bail was set at $3 million.
