Two people “miraculously” escaped a dramatic single-vehicle crash that left various parts of a wrecked SUV scattered on an Orange County road early Sunday morning, the Newport Beach Fire Department said.
Officials said the driver and passenger had “extricated themselves” from the car and were sitting on a curb along Jamboree Road near Palisades Tennis Club when emergency teams arrived around 1 a.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that their car struck two utility poles, causing “significant damage,” and struck a tree before coming to a stop in the southbound lane of the road, the fire department wrote on social media. Ta.
Police said the engine compartment of the SUV that ejected caught fire 6 meters away from the rest of the vehicle and was extinguished. One of the front tires was found on the grounds of the tennis club.
Officials said the driver and passenger were taken to a hospital in “stable” condition.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.
“Traffic accidents tend to increase during the busy holiday season,” the fire department said in an Instagram post, urging drivers to be careful.
“Please slow down, stay focused, and drive responsibly,” the department’s post said. “This holiday season, let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone.”
Authorities did not respond Sunday to requests for further details about the incident.
