Mexican artist Peso Pluma is the latest celebrity to win a lookalike contest.
Dozens of people gathered at Echo Park Lake Saturday morning to judge the winners of the Peso Pluma lookalike contest.
Peso Pluma, real name Hassan Emilio Babando, is the lead singer of the group from Guadalajara, Mexico. His discography ranges from rap to reggaeton, but he is best known for Mexican regional music.
The event’s organizer, Daniela Salazar, said she was inspired by the Timothée Chalamet look-alike event in New York.
“I kept looking at it and thought, ‘L.A. can do it,'” Salazar said. “We held a Peso Pluma contest because we thought it would be perfect for our demo.”
Salazar posted the invitation on his TikTok account, which began to attract attention among Peso Pluma fans. Event flyers were also posted around town.
In the contest, Peso Pluma ducks competed for a chance to win a fake gold chain and a $50 bill taped to white poster board, resembling a King Taco gift card.
The contestants took part in a variety of competitions that tested their dancing, sweet talk and personality.
The participants were voted one by one and the one who received the least cheers was eliminated. The person who cheered the most remained.
Once the final three contestants were chosen, the community crowned Peso Pluma.
Oscar, of Downey, California, was voted the grand prize winner.
The contest was held a day after a Shohei Ohtani lookalike contest was held outside the Japanese American National Museum in downtown Los Angeles.
