The fight for Lyle and Eric Menendez’s freedom has gained momentum in recent months, but the case dates back nearly 40 years to the gruesome crime scene where their parents, Jose and Kitty, were shot to death in their Beverly Hills mansion. Ta. .

August 20, 1989
Around 10 p.m., some people in the Beverly Hills neighborhood heard an explosion. They did not realize at the time that Jose and Kitty Menendez had been shot and killed while watching television at home.
Police later discovered that Jose had been shot in the back of the head. Kitty, who did not die immediately after being shot, tried to run away, but ended up being shot multiple times. Both had gunshot wounds to their kneecaps.
Around 11:47 p.m., the brothers called 911 and said they were returning home after going to the movies and attending the “Taste of LA” festival.
Weeks and months after the murder
Detectives from the Beverly Hills Police Department were suspicious of the brothers, who began spending their parents’ money lavishly.
Prosecutors then claimed the brothers spent $1 million over a six-month period.
Her brother Eric Menendez later confessed to the murder to psychologist Dr. Jerome Oziel. When Lyle learns that Oziel knows about the murders, he tells Eric that he must also kill Oziel.
Mr. Oziel’s mistress at the time then went to police and told investigators about the recorded confession.
March 1990
Lyle was first arrested on March 8th. Eric, who was in Israel at the time of Lyle’s arrest, turned himself in after returning to Los Angeles three days later.

July 1993

The trial ended with two juries deadlocked.
October 1995
The District Attorney’s Office pursued a second case against the brothers. But this time, there was only one juror for both brothers.
March 20, 1996
The jury found the brothers guilty and convicted them of two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
