The Beverly Hills Police Department asked people Tuesday to vote for a K-9 nominated for the prestigious Therapy Dog Award.
Nami, a support worker for the Beverly Hills Police Department since kindergarten, is one of the runners-up in the First Responder Paw Therapy Dog Award, which recognizes therapy dogs who serve the community and support first responders.
“America’s first responders are on the front lines of danger every day, saving lives and protecting the safety of our communities and nation, which can take a toll on their mental health,” the award states. one FHE Health says on its website. “The calming and healing presence of these dogs helps first responders process trauma experienced on the job and better cope with stress, sadness and anxiety.”
Nami is trained to sense people’s pheromones and blood pressure, skills that come in handy when providing emotional support to police officers, firefighters, and the entire Beverly Hills community.
The golden Labrador retriever initially began training to become a guide dog, but has found a new calling.
Nami’s application states, “Because she loved chasing squirrels, she was reassigned to the Support K-9 Training Team, which will support athletes during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.” He added that this is planned.
Nami is more than just a beautiful face. She is a hard worker, completing 16 hours of support training each month to assist first responders after difficult incidents.
In addition to attending public events with Beverly Hills police officers, Nami also inspires children to read at public library events and empower youth at youth camps.
Public voting is open until December 4th.
Nami will also be performing at the Winter Tales with Nami event on December 13th at the Beverly Hills Public Library.
