A 17-year-old girl scheduled to meet at a San Bernardino Target to sell a cell phone was hit by a car in the parking lot and had to be airlifted to a local hospital, authorities confirmed to KTLA.

The incident occurred Monday night, when the boy, who has not yet been identified, arranged for the sale to take place inside the Hesperia Target at 12795 Main Street.

It was inside the store that a potential buyer, reportedly a woman, took the boy’s cellphone and fled, authorities said.

The girl chased the woman out of the store and was hit by the suspect’s car.

Details are limited and detectives cannot say whether there were other accomplices who may have been in the suspect’s car before he hit the girl.

Footage from the scene showed the boy being airlifted on a stretcher to a nearby trauma center. Her condition was not immediately known.

Customers who frequent the Main Street Target in Hesperia told KTLA’s Shelby Nelson that they were concerned about the chaos inside the store.

Victorville resident Lisa Ray said she tries to avoid coming to the store during the evening hours because of incidents like this.

Law enforcement officials across Southern California are warning consumers to be wary of scams, especially when arranging meet-ups or meet-ups listed on online marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace and Offer Up. .

Officials recommend meeting potential buyers or sellers only in secure exchange zones, such as the lobby of a local police station.

“I either buy online or pick it up in store,” Ray added. “I have concerns about private sales.”

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department detectives did not say how many suspects they were searching for or whether any arrests had been made.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
