Trump’s transition team announced that several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees were the targets of “violent and un-American” threats Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
“The attacks ranged from bomb threats to ‘swatting’ attacks,” Caroline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for President Trump and Vance, said in a statement. “In response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those targeted. President Trump and the entire transition team are grateful for their swift action.” .”
Fox News Digital reported that local law enforcement officials responded to the threats and visited the homes of several candidates and appointees.
It was not immediately clear which incoming ministers were targeted or whether authorities had made any arrests.
“President Trump and the transition are focused on working to unite our country by ensuring a secure and prosperous future,” Levitt said. “Dangerous acts like threats and violence, like President Trump, will not deter us.”
Swatting is an illegal form of harassment in which someone falsely reports to law enforcement alleging that a bomb threat, hostage situation, murder, or other emergency crime is occurring at the victim’s location.
