The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a contract extension with one of the key pieces in the team’s bid for a World Series title.
The Dodgers reached agreement on a contract with Tommy Edman on Friday, ensuring the versatile player will remain with the team for the foreseeable future.
According to ESPN’s Jeff PassanEdman agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $74 million. The deal means the Dodgers will retain the reigning National League Championship Series MVP through 2029, including a team option for a sixth year.
According to Passan, the deal comes with a signing bonus of $17 million, with some of the money deferred in the future, like many of the team’s controversial big contracts of late.
“Tommy Tanks” played his entire career with the St. Louis Cardinals, arriving in Los Angeles at the July MLB trade deadline. He also acquired Dodgers relief pitcher Michael Kopech in a three-team deal that sent promising infielder Miguel Vargas to the Chicago White Sox.

Edman was recovering from offseason wrist surgery and wasn’t ready for a single game in 2024 when the Dodgers turned on him.
He rewarded his team in the postseason by posting a .327 batting average with 20 hits including two home runs, 13 RBIs, and five stolen bases while playing Golden Glove-worthy defense as both shortstop and center field.
The team returned the favor by increasing his salary and locking him up long-term.
