A man wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and barricaded himself in an East Los Angeles home for several hours turned himself in to authorities Saturday.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Unit responded to the 3900 block of Gleason Street where a man with a deadly weapon was reported barricaded at approximately 12:40 p.m.
According to LASD, the man was wanted in connection with a murder that occurred earlier this week. A man carjacked someone Saturday morning, led a chase and then barricaded himself inside a random home.
LASD personnel provided tactical command as the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) contacted the man and attempted to “reach a peaceful resolution.”
Residents of nearby homes were evacuated for their safety. Further details were not immediately available.
Around 8:25 p.m., the man turned himself in and was taken into custody, LASD said.
“The area was deemed safe and all nearby evacuees were allowed to return to their homes,” LASD said.
