Investigators in downtown Los Angeles are searching for the driver involved in a rollover crash that killed a teenage boy and injured seven others overnight.
First responders were called to the intersection of Broadway and Cesar Chavez Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday. There, a sedan and a pickup truck collided, resulting in major damage to both vehicles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said two people trapped in a vehicle had to be rescued. As a result of the accident, 18-year-old Isaac Arellanes died from his injuries.
Three people were taken to area hospitals in critical condition. The extent of the survivors’ injuries is unknown.
It is unclear what caused the crash or who was at fault, but witnesses recalled seeing one of the drivers driving well above the speed limit shortly before the crash.
According to investigators, the driver drove away immediately after the incident. No detailed description of the person was provided.
Authorities are investigating whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
