Authorities are searching for a suspect and trying to determine a motive in a shooting in Vernon early Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred at 1:06 a.m. in the 4900 block of Charter Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The area where the shooting occurred is primarily surrounded by commercial buildings.
LASD confirmed that the unidentified victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information was immediately available, but LASD said its agents were assisting the Vernon Police Department with the investigation.
The 2020 Census found that Vernon had a population of 222, making it one of the least populated cities in all of California.
