Volunteers at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center have launched a letter-writing campaign with the goal of finding a home for Porter, a 1-year-old German shepherd mix.
Porter has been at the shelter for 232 days, but staff still don’t know why.
“Porter is great on a leash and with consistent training will far exceed your expectations. Basically, he just wants/needs love and attention. I’ve been with him for almost 20 years, and he’s definitely one of the most polite people I’ve ever met.”
Porter, who has been at the shelter since April 9, gets along well with humans and other dogs.

“Porter loves to play fetch in the courtyard before we go out for long walks, and then he lies relaxed next to me,” writes Russ Mandel. “I think Porter’s favorite thing is to nap in the back seat of the car while I eat lunch.
Mandel wrote that he hopes Porter can experience this lifestyle for several hours a day instead of just a few minutes.
