If you were one of the millions of people who watched Squid Game when it first aired in 2021, you may already know that the long-awaited second season will finally be released on December 26th. Perfect for a quick post-Christmas bet. . However, if you can’t wait until then, you’re in luck. Netflix is offering access to early screenings of the Season 2 premiere, but there’s a catch.
To attend the screening, you’ll have to turn from fan to player and roam the streets of LA on a special themed run (4.56K (in honor of player 456) instead of 5K). Dec. 12 at an undisclosed location in East Hollywood. This is no ordinary foot race. Along the way, various elimination challenges will appear designed to weaken the competition. “Tasks of choice, physical challenges, and opportunities,” Netflix promises. Downside: Not all contestants get a seat on the judging panel (though those who are eliminated are given participation prizes, which is a decidedly kinder fate than those who participate in the show).
The Squid Game 4.56K Run is free to join (you can register here). However, please note that even after registering online, you are not guaranteed a place in the run. Attendance is limited to 2,000 people and admission is first-come, first-served, so arrive early when the line starts at 4pm.
Check-in begins at 6pm at event headquarters, where you will receive a complimentary tracksuit to wear over your own clothing. There will also be photo ops, immersive games, live music, and a mini night market featuring food from local favorites like Intercrew, Chinmurie, Jilly, Kogi and It’s Boba Time.
At the opening ceremony, the rules will be explained and the creators and cast of Squid Games will greet you, including Player 456 himself (Lee Jeong-jae) and the frontman (Lee Byung-hun). 4.56K kicks off at 8pm, and those who complete the route and pass the challenge will receive coveted tickets to a 10pm screening at a theater near you. Let the game begin!
