Los Angeles County District Attorney-elect Nathan Hochman will be officially sworn in on Tuesday, taking the oath of office on the front steps of the Hall of Justice.
Hockman will replace District Attorney George Gascón, who lost re-election in a landslide.
Former federal prosecutor Hochman told LAist he is excited about the “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
“I will be taking over an office that is considered one of the best prosecutor’s offices in the nation,” he said.
Mr. Hochman will succeed the reform-minded Mr. Gascón, whose policies have been criticized by Mr. Hochman and others as “pro-crime.”
Despite the criticism, Hochman said his changes do not “replace one extreme policy with an extreme policy from the other side of the pendulum.”
“I’m not going to bring back mass incarceration policies,” he said.

One of the most prominent cases Mr. Hochman will handle soon after taking office is that of the Menendez brothers, in which Mr. Gascón supported the indignity.
Hochman told KTLA that his office has thoroughly reviewed case files and other documents to determine whether his office will support the brothers who killed their parents in Beverly and have been in prison for more than 30 years. He said he would “do the hard work” of investigating the matter. The Hills in 1989.
“Only then can we be in a position to determine whether re-sentencing is a remedy in this situation or whether what is being asked in re-sentencing is an appropriate request,” Hochman said.
