Thieves ransacked a family arcade in San Bernardino over the Thanksgiving weekend, the store’s owner said.
Owner Will Luna said he received a report of a break-in at Extraordinaire Arcade early Friday morning and found some of the missing items at a nearby homeless camp. The arcade, which had pinball machines and 50 arcade games, was not open at the time of the robbery.
Luna said the restaurant was closed Wednesday night because it was Thanksgiving. He said it was likely someone remained in the store and came out of hiding when the door was locked.
“When we closed, they came down when the coast was clear and we were outside our front door,” Luna said.
Among the items found at a nearby encampment was a computer board worth about $500, Luna said. Game consoles, monitors, and even snacks such as soda and potato chips were stolen.
“We started working on the tent and moved it and saw a box with a specific computer board for the game,” Luna said. “It was $500, but we found a lot more of ours.”
A bathroom was also damaged as the thieves made their way from the arcade to the salon next door.
“They fell through the ceiling and tried to grab the safe, but they couldn’t get out because the front door was double locked,” said Teresa Sandoval, owner of Salon Metro. .
Sandoval said the robbers eventually escaped by crawling back up the ceiling. Both business owners told NBCLA that they recognized some of the thieves from surveillance video as homeless people in the area.
No arrests were reported as of Monday afternoon.
NBCLA has asked police for an update. The department said the crime is under investigation.
