A teenage suspect has been arrested after his ex-girlfriend was found shot to death in Long Beach.
Long Beach police said the suspect, identified only as a 17-year-old male due to his age, is accused of shooting 21-year-old Judge Lopez.
According to authorities, Lopez and the suspect had been in a relationship for some time, but the relationship had broken up.
On Nov. 22, police responded around 11:42 a.m. to a report of a woman being injured in the 900 block of Gaviota Street.
Arriving officers found Lopez lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Paramedics transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No suspect was found at the scene. Investigators later determined that a male suspect approached Lopez inside her home and shot her.
Detectives believed it was a targeted killing.
On Nov. 26, the teenage suspect was found in the 6100 block of Orange Avenue and arrested on two unrelated no-bail warrants.
After his arrest, detectives processed evidence and pursued leads in the murder, and later announced that a 17-year-old boy was identified as the prime suspect, police said.
The circumstances surrounding Lopez’s murder remain under investigation, including the motive of his ex-girlfriend.
On December 2, authorities submitted the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
