The Los Angeles City Council is expected to vote Wednesday to strengthen protections for undocumented immigrants by officially making L.A. a sanctuary city.
The vote reaffirms the council’s unanimous decision last month.
After President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in November, officials in California and other Democratic-led states are gearing up to make good on promises he and his administration will crack down on illegal immigration.
President Trump has even called for using the military to enact mass deportations.

But in Los Angeles, these deportees have no local support.
“We will not participate in roundups of people with the following symptoms.” [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] or any other agency,” Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell said.
If signed by Mayor Karen Bass, the bill would go into effect within 10 days, almost certainly before Trump takes office in January.
“I think it’s important to send a message to Angelenos, all Angelenos: We are a city of immigrants,” Bass said.
