Multiple arrests have been made in connection with a flash mob-style robbery at a Los Angeles 7-Eleven after the parents of a “young male” assailant spotted their children in surveillance footage released by the Los Angeles Police Department. Someone came out.
Between Friday, July 12th and Friday, September 20th, there were 14 robberies at 10 stores in LAPD’s Rampart, Hollywood, Wilshire and West LA neighborhoods.
In each case, the crew members came to the store on bicycles in the evening, stole or damaged property, and left without paying, police said.
Police said the group typically included 20 to 40 “young men,” believed to be teenagers. Witnesses told authorities they feared for their safety during the robbery and some of the suspects physically pushed them away, but no one was injured.

In a Sept. 26 news release, investigators said for the first time that the robberies were linked to one separate group and that 13 of the 14 robberies occurred on a Friday night.
At an Oct. 1 Los Angeles Police Commission meeting, LAPD Deputy Commissioner Blake Chow told commissioners that surveillance footage and a press release provided to the media late last month had an immediate impact and led to the arrest. He said that he had generated a large amount of information from the public. .
“On September 26, the Organized Retail Crime Task Force responded to a northeast area where a parent brought in a boy who had been involved in a flash robbery. The child was arrested on suspicion of robbery,” Chow said. “On September 28th, another parent in the Southwest region brought their child to the station. The boy was arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with a 7-Eleven flash robbery. A similar situation occurred on September 29th. 77, and the parent surrendered the child. The boy was also arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Chow added that through interviews, investigators learned that many of the boys involved in the 7-Eleven flash robberies were not from the areas where the crimes occurred.
Additionally, the deputy said more arrests are expected as anonymous tips continue to come in and school resource officers work to identify other juveniles involved.
